HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY SILVER JEWELLERY?

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% by weight of pure silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper, hence the international hallmark of 925. A key characteristic of sterling silver is its oxidisation (tarnishing) process as it interacts with external elements like oxygen, heat, sweat, acid, cosmetic products etc.

Here are some helpful tips to maintain the shine on your silver jewellery for just a little longer:

  • To clean off dirt or cosmetic products trapped within small cavities of your jewellery, soak the jewellery in warm water with a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid for five minutes and then scrub it gently with an old tooth brush. Rinse off the soapy water and dry with paper towel. Wipe with a soft cloth or with a silver polishing cloth.

  • Tarnishing on your silver jewellery can either be all over the piece given it a dull, even grey tone or spotty grey marks on the surface of your jewellery. Either way, to remove light tarnish off your silver jewellery, household silverware polish, such as Silvo silver polish, can help with restoring the lustre of your silver jewellery. Ordinary toothpaste can also be used to shine up your tarnished silver jewellery. All you need to do is gently rub the toothpaste on like soap, and then clean it off with a paper towel. Certain toothpaste type might offer better result than others, but it is always a good idea to test a small area first.

  • Please feel free to contact us if you would like us to clean or re-plate any jewellery piece for you,

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY BRASS JEWELLERY?

Unless specified otherwise, our brass jewellery is 18ct gold plated to achieve a beautiful lustre. Brass metal, even with gold plating, is prone to tarnishing when exposed to external elements such as oxygen, direct sun or heat, sweat, and cosmetic products over time. When gold plated brass jewellery is not worn, it is recommended for the piece to be wrapped in tissue paper and stored away from direct heat or sunlight. We do not recommend for you to use any polishing material to bring back the shine of your gold plated brass jewellery. Please contact us if you wish to re-plate the jewellery you had purchased from us.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY BRASS HOMEWARE?

Bass is a versatile metal that can be used in industrial manufacturing process for items such as piping, large decorative sculptures and home accessories. The warm, bright gold appearance of polished brass also makes the metal a popular choice in the manufacturing of personal adornments and accessories.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. A key property of the metal is its oxidisation (tarnishing) process as it interacts with external elements such as oxygen, direct sun or heat, sweat, acid, and cosmetic products. Chemical treatment or techniques such as electro-plating, whereby a layer of gold is bonded onto the surface of brass, can slow down the tarnishing of your beloved brass item. However, as brass tarnishes overtime, it is possible for one to embrace the characteristics developed as part of the process.

If you know that your brass has not gone through any tarnishing treatments, such as electro plating, here are some helpful hits and tips for you to care for your brass items:

  • If the brass comes into contact with food items or sweat, wash it with a mild detergent immediately after use. Wipe away any excess water to allow the item to tarnish evenly over time.

  • To bring out the natural lustre of the metal again, rub the whole item, with particular focus on any dark marks, with a medium to fine grit sandpaper (800 -1200gr) available from all good hardware stores. Alternatively, gently scrub your brass item with a paste made of salt and vinegar.

  • For stubborn tarnish marks, soak the item overnight in vinegar diluted with water and scrub it with sandpaper or vinegar paste in the morning.

In the event of experiencing allergic reaction to brass or copper, discontinue contact with the metal and consult a medial professional immediately.
